Post Doctoral Researchers

Dr Andrew Barrow

Andrew undertook his undergraduate degree at the University of Bath, before pursuing a PhD in organic chemistry, in particular on the development of photo-active probes for protein footprinting, under the supervision of Professor John Moses at the University of Nottingham. Since graduating in March 2017, Andrew has stayed part of the Moses Group during the group’s recent relocation to La Trobe University.

 

 

Dr Li Jing Fu

Jingfu completed his undergraduate studies in 2011 obtaining a B.Sc. in the School of Chemistry and Materials Science at Nanjing Normal University in China.  He later moved to the Shi Lab in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Nanjing University, focusing on the development of asymmetric hydroesterification methodology and applications and obtained his PhD in 2017.  In 2018 Jingfu joined in the Moses group at La Trobe University in the Institute for Molecular Science as a post doctoral researcher.

Postgraduates

Chris Smedley

Chris completed his undergraduate studies in 2013 obtaining an MSci in Medicinal and Biological Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. He later moved on to beginning a PhD in the Moses Lab at Nottingham, focusing on the development of new SuFEx methodology and applications. In 2015 Chris completed a secondment in Sardinia at Kemotech srl as part of the Marie-Curie RISE project. In 2017 Chris relocated to Melbourne Australia with Prof. Moses to complete his studies at La Trobe University in the Institute for Molecular Science. In his spare time Chris enjoys the occasional game of golf and aims to apply his chemistry skills in beer brewing.

Marie-Claire Giel


Marie-Claire completed her undergraduate studies in 2015 obtaining an MSci in Biochemistry and Biological Chemistry at the University of Nottingham. Marie-Claire later moved on to begin her PhD in the Moses Lab at Nottingham, focussing on the development of new methodologies and the development of new antibiotics. In 2017 Marie-Claire relocated to Melbourne, Australia with Prof. Moses to complete her studies at La Trobe University in the Institute for Molecular Science. In her spare time Marie-Claire enjoys baking and exploring the outdoors.

 

 

Ric Ellis

Ric completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wales in 1999 obtaining a BSc in Applied Chemistry. In 2001 Ric moved on to work at Lovibond Tintometer as a chartered chemist in research and development focusing on the development of water testing reagents. Ric is now carrying out a part time PhD in the Moses Lab.

 

Alessandra Ottonello

Alessandra completed her undergraduate studies in 2015 obtaining an MSci in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Sassari, Italy. In 2016, she concluded a secondment in UK at the University of Nottingham as part of the Marie-Curie RISE project. Alessandra is now part of the Moses group at La Trobe University in the Institute for Molecular Science, Melbourne. In December 2017, she moved on to begin her PhD in Australia, focussing on the development of new antibiotics. In her spare time, Alessandra enjoys travelling and exploring.

 

 

 

Timothy Gialelis

Tim completed his undergraduate studies in 2016 obtaining a BSc in  Chemistry and Microbiology at La Trobe university. He then moved on to complete an honors degree at La Trobe working with the Victoria Police Forensic Services Department on the synthesis and characterization of illicit substances. In 2018 Tim began his PhD with the Moses group working on the development of novel methodologies. In his spare time Tim enjoys fishing and 3D printing.

 

Honors

Daniel O’Brien

Daniel completed his undergraduate studies at La Trobe with majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry and began his Honours year at La Trobe as a member of the Moses group in February 2018. In his spare time Daniel enjoys playing futsal and camping.
